This makes Sephiroth the third character added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s second Fighter Pass following the debuts of Min Min from Arms and Steve: he whose fame derives largely (though not entirely) from the realm, kingdom, and universe of Minecraft. More importantly, the addition of Sephiroth to the Smash Bros. roster means that it’s now possible to pit Sephiroth against fellow Final Fantasy 7 legend cloud within the unique confines of Nintendo’s massive fighting game. Since it may be a while before we get to play the next chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, this could be your best chance to watch those two square off for quite some time. In what has become something of a tradition for The Game Awards reveals, Sephiroth’s debut trailer doesn’t feature many details regarding the character’s moveset and other key gameplay attributes. However, it does offer a few brief glimpses of the character in action which at least offer a taste of what he’ll bring to a roster that’s certainly not lacking in big personalities and unique playstyles. Sephiroth’s debut certainly feels like the most high-profile addition to the Smash Bros. Ultimate roster in quite some time. At this point, we’re really forced to wonder how Nintendo ever releases another Smash game after somehow managing to import characters from the most legendary corners of the gaming universe and add them to what may just be the fighting series’ finest hour yet. Sephiroth (and his incredible theme) is expected to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster by December 31 alongside the other remaining characters from the upcoming Fighters Pass DLC.
